Have you noticed that your energy is lower than usual lately? Well, first let me say well done – well done for being self aware and noticing these shifts, ups and downs and waves of positives and negatives in life. Awareness is the first step, and these things are simply part of being human; we commonly experience varying moods, thought changes and shifts in our energy as a whole.
Though these high’s and low’s are expected, it can be tough when we find ourselves at a low point, and can be even harder to pull ourselves out. We can get stuck in patterns of negative thoughts, irate moods and depleted enthusiasm and it can seem impossible to find the energy to bring us back to our usual selves. Sometimes, simple, easy to do activities can help us shift our energy just enough to help us get back on track – below are 5 of our favourites:
Getting out into nature – This would have to be our number one! It’s incredible just how much our mindset can shift after getting a change of scenery and being out amongst nature. The fresh air, beautiful scenery and re-connecting to the earth is one of the most powerful mood enhancers there is.
Doing a physical yoga practice – Who can say that they haven’t felt better after a yoga class? Not us! Whether your go to is vinyasa or yin, a 5 minute practice or an hour long class; moving the body and focusing on the breath is the perfect way to release that stagnant energy.
Expressing your feelings and emotions – It’s hard keeping everything bottled up inside; it festers and eats at us and can be a huge burden on our every day lives. Writing down, talking about or expressing our feelings and emotions in a creative way can be a huge relief and can help us in letting go mentally and physically.
Listening to music – It’s crazy how music can tap into our emotions and enable us to express our feelings. Think about that upbeat, happy song that gets you tapping your foot or that sad song you tear up to, but which at the same time helps you feel better by getting out those negative feelings. Music can be a mood changer!
Meditation Practice – A lot of people dismiss meditation, saying they are unable to quieten the mind or to focus for long enough, however meditation can be as simple as just sitting quietly, trying to avoid distraction and simply focusing completely on one activity. Whether you meditate this way or chose a mantra or a guided meditation, there’s no arguing the powerful feeling and energy shift at the end of the practice.
If you are feeling stuck or overwhelmed and unable to get back to your usual energy levels, give these simple activities a go, however do remember that it’s okay to accept where you are and most importantly, don’t be hard on yourself if you aren’t feeling quite like your regular self.
Living in a pandemic for over 12 months, constant stress and fear is exhausting. Plus we seem to having a heat wave, crazy humidity, all effecting our sleep and wellbeing. Be kind to yourself.
